Today, NARAL, an abortion up-to-birth group that hosted Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham at their annual gala, has also embraced Rep. Deb Haaland, who endorsed Elizabeth Warren for president, to promote abortion up-to-birth for indigenous women by advocating for the repeal of the Hyde Amendment.
The Hyde Amendment is intended to bar federal funding for abortion, which keeps tax dollars away from financing the ending of human life.
In an email sent by NARAL, it featured a quote by Rep. Haaland, saying “Indigenous women deserve to be protected just like anyone else in this country.” Although this statement seems benign, in reality, her words are being used to promote federal funding of abortions, specifically to promote Native American women having abortions.
In 2011, the Navajo Council acknowledged that “children, even unborn children, occupy a place in Navajo society that can best be described as holy or sacred, and that the Nation’s obligations to its children, especially their need for family to be preserved, need to be met in an aggressive and culturally appropriate manner.”
Despite the Navajo Nation affirming their stance that they value unborn children, Haaland is attempting to speak for all indigenous people by promoting federally funded abortion up-to-birth policies.
NARAL is notorious for its militant strategy, harassing elected officials to vote for pro-abortion bills and confirmations to our nation’s courts.
As we saw in 2018 when Justice Brett Kavanaugh was up for confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court, NARAL joined in on the bullying of moderate Senators, such as pro-abortion Sen. Susan Collins, who had a target on her back because she voted for Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh promised to “keep an open mind in every case,” which Collins accepted as him being an independent judge.
Today, Elizabeth Warren sent out an insensitive tweet calling for “respect” on “Indigenous Peoples Day,” despite her using Native American people for decades to get ahead in her career. As previously stated, Haaland has endorsed Warren for President.
Haaland’s embrace of the radical group and of Warren shows just how out-of-touch she is with her constituents, and her penchant to push abortion up-to-birth despite many indigenous people rejecting abortion.
