On Wednesday, the White House released the official transcript of President Donald Trump’s July 25 call with the newly-elected Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The phone call covered various topics, including Rudy Giuliani, and Fmr. Vice President Joe Biden’s alleged illegal activity in response to a whistleblower complaint.
“There is a lot of talk about Biden’s son, that Biden stopped the prosecution, and a lot of people want to find out about that,” President Trump said in the transcript. He continued, “whatever you could do with the Attorney General, that would be great.”
After the phone call was released, Democrat members of New Mexico’s congressional delegation released statements and tweets in response.
Sen. Martin Heinrich wrote in a statement that the transcript is “hard evidence that President Trump is running a criminal enterprise,” and urging swift action on Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s impeachment inquiry.
Rep. Ben Ray Luján (NM-3) wrote in a short tweet, “This wasn’t a phone call between foreign leaders. It was a shakedown. President Trump — once again — betrayed his oath of office and put our national security at risk by seeking to manufacture dirt on his political opponent. Or as Trump calls it, a ‘favor.’”
The heated rhetoric mirrors that of other far-left members of Congress, such as House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, who called President Trump’s phone conversation “A classic Mafia-like shakedown” in an interview.
Shortly after these statements, President Trump appeared with the Ukrainian President at the UN, where Zelensky said, “nobody pushed me” in response to a question about the telephone call with Trump, and President Trump told the media “You know there was no pressure.”
So far, Rep. Ben Ray Luján and Rep. Deb Haaland have publicly called for the impeachment of President Trump, while we are still waiting on a decision by Rep. Xochitl Torres Small, who represents the southern half of the state, which leans Republican. On Tuesday, after Speaker Pelosi announced her call to move forward with an impeachment inquiry, dozens of Democrats took to Twitter to urge Torres Small to sign on to the impeachment inquiry.
In recent weeks or months, we will see if Torres Small takes the lead of many Democrat constituents and Rep. Luján, or risk alienating her base by voting against impeachment.
Amazing at the very least. They hear what they want to hear with a preconceived notion in mind. They can take an one word sound byte and turn it into an international crisis. I applaud their collective thought processes. They constantly amaze me.
Another nothing burger that will bomb out within weeks. If Torres Small votes for impeachment, she will be soundly defeated in 2020. Democrats have no desire to legislate in behalf of the American people; they prefer instead to create turmoil and instability within our democracy.
How original —-is there one progressive that can think for themselves??Never mind, I know the answer!!!!
