Clinton Accepts Democratic Nomination

People sat on the edge of their seats throughout the Democratic National Convention starting Monday to hear Hillary’s grand acceptance speech, but it seemed underwhelming. Clinton sounded like she always does on the campaign trail. She talked down on Donald Trump as usual and repeatedly used her “woman card” to fire up the crowd. She numerously pointed to her husband, Bill, and her daughter, Chelsea for validation from the crowd, that is still disenfranchised from Debbie Wasserman Schultz’ sabotage on her former fellow candidate, Bernie Sanders.

Hillary’s speech was mostly about bringing the nation together and telling the American people that they could not do anything on their own. She said that Trump was arrogant by saying that he “alone could fix” it, but what she failed to say was how out of context she was quoting him. His full quote from the speech was “ Nobody knows the system better than me, which is why I alone can fix it. I have seen firsthand how the system is rigged against our citizens, just like it was rigged against Bernie Sanders – he never had a chance.” Instead of apologizing to Sanders, she pandered to his supporters in hopes of some millennial and minority votes. Hillary continuously called his actions great, as the camera turned to him, evidently unsatisfied with her remarks. He gave no expression to the woman who stole the nomination from him.

Clinton numerously said that “we will fix [America] together,”  but the speech lacked any real substance in the respect that she never said radical Islamic terrorism. She only said “terrorists,” and she never gave concrete answers on how we should fix these problems. She used talking points such as “where love trumps hate” and other Trump-targeted remarks to justify her lack of solid answers and plans for America.

We will give Hillary the benefit of the doubt, which maybe she will tackle these issues front and center in the campaign, and we hope she will. In some places in her speech, Clinton did an excellent job, such as talking about David Brown, the Dallas police chief, who called for people to apply to be police officers. Clinton said, “500 people applied in just 12 days.” At Join the Block Party, we are happy to see Hillary talking about such issues that she has never mentioned before and in a way, it is refreshing to see someone from the Democratic party praising police officers for the sacrifices they do every day.

Even though Hillary Clinton’s speech was mostly a way to campaign to the angry voters by saying “The truth is, through all these years of public service, the ‘service’ part has always come easier to me than the ‘public’ part… I get it that some people just don’t know what to make of me.” Trump has been leading in the polls in recent weeks; some polls close to double digits in the lead. Clinton will have to fight tooth and nail to get her numbers up, and her voter base happy.
